Accessibility statement
We believe everyone should be able to use our website and booking engine, regardless of ability. Accessibility is not just a compliance requirement — it improves the experience for every guest.
We work continuously to ensure our website and booking engine meet the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and conform with WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
This statement applies to the hotel’s website and the booking engine used to complete reservations.
Our approach
Accessibility is owned jointly by the hotel, Nordic Hotels & Resorts, and our platform providers. Our work includes automated testing, continuous review and user testing to identify and address issues on an ongoing basis.
Compliance status
Our website and booking engine partially meet the requirements of WCAG 2.1 Level AA. A full audit has been completed against 96 accessibility criteria based on the Swedish Public Employment Service’s accessibility checklist.
Summary of accessibility status:
- Of 96 criteria, 66 (68.8%) are fully met and 6 (6.2%) are partially met.
- 13 criteria (13.5%) are not fully met — 8 of which are hotel-specific and 7 relate to the central booking engine (Guesthouse widget).
- Improvement work is ongoing in collaboration with our platform provider and the Guesthouse team.
Known issues in the booking engine
The booking engine used to complete reservations across all Nordic Hotels & Resorts websites has the following known issues. These are part of ongoing improvement work and are maintained centrally.
For users with visual impairments and/or reduced colour vision:
- The homepage is missing an <h1> heading, making it difficult for screen reader users to identify the page’s main topic. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.6)
- Several images within promotional offer links and destination cards use empty alt attributes, meaning the content they convey is not described to screen reader users. (WCAG 1.1.1)
- A number of elements use role=”presentation” or role=”none” inside interactive links, which may cause assistive technologies to ignore meaningful structural information. (WCAG 4.1.2)
- SVG icons within the booking widget lack text alternatives, affecting screen reader users who do not receive information about icon functions. (WCAG 1.1.1)
For users with motor impairments:
- There is no skip-to-content link, requiring keyboard users to tab through the full navigation on every page load. (WCAG 2.4.1)
- The destination search field has autocomplete disabled, which prevents browsers and assistive technologies from offering auto-fill suggestions. (WCAG 1.3.5))
For users with cognitive difficulties:
- The homepage lacks a visible <h1> heading, making it harder to understand the page’s purpose at a glance. (WCAG 2.4.6)
- The hotel listing page contains a large number of interactive elements and the page heading appears multiple times at different heading levels, creating a confusing structure. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.6)
Components and ARIA attributes in the booking widget:
- Some buttons and dropdown components within the booking widget use ARIA attributes that are not fully verified. This may affect how screen readers perceive component function and state. (WCAG 4.1.2)
Known issues on the hotel website
The following issues have been identified through an audit of our website and are part of our ongoing improvement work together with our platform provider.
For users with visual impairments and/or reduced colour vision:
- Text contrast against background does not reach 4.5:1 in several cases, particularly in interactions between brand colours and background imagery/video in hero banners. Requires updated visual identity with contrast-compliant colour schemes. (WCAG 1.4.3, Level AA)
- Menu items often blend into top video or hero imagery, making navigation difficult to distinguish. Design adjustment required. (WCAG 1.4.11, Level AA, partially met)
- Hero banner video lacks text description. The video is decorative and has been marked with aria-hidden for screen readers. (WCAG 1.1.1, Level A)
- Pre-recorded video lacks audio description for visual content. Applies to videos published after September 2020. (WCAG 1.2.5, Level AA)
For users with motor impairments:
- Labels on certain checkbox elements are hidden from screen readers, meaning the function of form fields is not communicated correctly. (WCAG 1.3.1, Level A)
For users with cognitive difficulties:
- Some forms lack confirmation, undo functionality or preview before submission. Affects primarily newsletter forms — no critical business systems impacted. (WCAG 3.3.4, Level AA, partially met)
- CAPTCHA is used in one context (invisible, risk-score based). May in some cases block users employing assistive technology. (WCAG 1.1.1, Level A, partially met)
Forms and error handling:
- Newsletter form: screen readers do not receive status messages about errors during inline validation. (WCAG 4.1.3, Level A)
- Newsletter form: screen readers do not receive information about successful submission. (WCAG 4.1.3, Level A)
- Newsletter form: screen readers do not receive information about dynamically updated content. (WCAG 4.1.3, Level A)
- Newsletter form: screen readers do not receive information about a busy system during loading. (WCAG 4.1.3, Level A)
Code quality:
- On certain pages, incorrect HTML nesting occurs — for example <p> inside <p> or heading elements inside paragraph elements. Affects how assistive technologies interpret page structure. (WCAG 4.1.1, Level A)
How this statement was prepared
This statement is based on a structured audit of the website against 96 accessibility criteria (WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA, with additional Swedish criteria from the Public Employment Service’s accessibility checklist). The review covers both automated testing and manual verification using keyboard, screen reader, and browser developer tools.
